Our rules
- Halves count. Twelve pints is far too many for anyone: a half, or a soft drink, in each is plenty.
- Water at every third pub. Pubs 3, 6, 9 and 12, at least.
- Eat. Before you set off, and again about halfway.
- Christmas jumpers on. Tinsel optional.
- Nobody's made to drink. Swap to alcohol-free whenever you like (7 of these pubs pour an alcohol-free beer we know of), or call it a night: there's no prize for finishing.
- Be kind to the staff. December is their busiest month.
- Sort the way home before you set off.
Drinkaware has facts and support. Bigger groups: ring ahead, as some pubs take bookings in December. And over-18s only.
How we chose them
The twelve pubs and bars closest together (12 pubs with their beers known to us), in the order that makes the shortest walk, with about 30 minutes in each. Every one was open when you'd get there setting off at 2pm on each Friday and Saturday from 27 November 2026 to 19 December 2026, going by its own opening times or, where we don't have them, the hours places of its kind usually keep. Pubs may keep other hours in December, and some take bookings only: check before you set off. Fewer stops? Plan your own crawl, from 3 pubs to 8.
